Waiting Is the Hardest Part

Remember in September when Valve dropped the beta version of SteamVR 2.0 on us like a surprise party no one saw coming? Well, just a month later, they’ve laid another surprise on us. This time it’s the full release of SteamVR 2.0, and it’s a doozy.

Unifying with Style

Valve’s goal with this release was to pretty much make everything on Steam available in VR form. And by ‘everything,’ I mean exactly that; even grandma’s knitting tutorials if they ever get around to making those. The idea is not just to unify the Steam ecosystem for all users but also to ensure your expensive VR gear isn’t just sitting there, reminding you of the money you could’ve spent on pizza and comics.

Bracing for an Exciting Future

Even more excitingly, they’ve fine-tuned the system to be able to update and add new features faster and more frequently. So fingers crossed, soon we’ll all be waving lightsabers around in Jedi outfits before you can say “these are not the updates you’re looking for.”

We’ve Been Working Hard, Promise!

In their adorable attempt to pull back the curtains on their operations, Valve admitted earlier this year that they were “hard at work” on the SteamVR 2.0 update. Which is nice to know, as we were worried they might’ve spent all of 2019 loafing around, watching paint dry or running cheese tasting sessions instead.

So, there you have it, folks. SteamVR 2.0 is here, and it comes loaded with promises of a better, faster, and more immersive experience. It promises such a high level of integration that soon, you could spend 24/7 on Steam without ever returning to the mundane 3D world. I only hope they install a virtual food delivery system, because once I start playing, I’m not leaving until my energy levels hit ‘I can’t even’.
