Who Said Beauty Only Exists Offline? Wellness Industry Ditches Vanity Mirrors for Digital Screens
Digital Age Nips and Tucks Old Marketing Methods
The aesthetics and wellness industry, think med spas, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, weight loss clinics, OBGYNS and the whole shebang, have been whipped into the digital age by none other than our favourite lockdown catalyst – the pandemic.
As forced hibernation became the “it” trend of 2020-2022 (which is hilarious in itself because, seriously, who wanted it to be?), these industries – so reliant on in-person consultations and ad-hoc marketing campaigns – started flexing their muscles digitally. Or should we say, started giving themselves a digital makeover?
Expectations: Bridging The Screen Gap
While once upon a time you could only get your beauty-fix as an in-person experience, the pandemic face mask (a beauty treatment in itself we dare say!) made one thing evident – an online presence isn’t just cool anymore, it’s expected. If the ancient Egyptians had internet, they would’ve probably expected their embalming consultants to have an online booking service too!
The possibility to buy your new face via a simple click and scroll? It sounds like a Sci-fi reality, yet here we are, living and breathing and… botoxing online? Things just got real, people.
Not Every Business Is Hopping On…
But like any good reality TV makeover show, not everyone is cheering for the transformation. Not all businesses have put down the scalpel and picked up the mouse. We have yet to see how this digital facelift will hold up in the long run. Will we witness digital smile lines and HTML crows feet? Only 1s and 0s can tell.
Hot Take:
From fillers to filters, our beauty standards are going digital and it seems the wellness industry needed a bit of a “touch up” to keep up with the times. I mean, who needs a mirror when you have a live-stream ready, high-definition front camera, right? Just remember, digital or not, true beauty is not having to hold your breath while taking a selfie.
