Michigan Central Station: From Conducting Trains to Commanding Drones

Once a Ghost, Now a Wiz!

Remember that creepy, abandoned train station in Detroit? You know, the one that even ghosts avoided? Well, thanks to Ford, this Michigan Central Station will soon feel the buzz again – but this time, it’s quite literally with drones!

Drone Deliveries: Because Pendulum Clocks are Overrated

Ford’s very own subsidiary that operates the train station announced today that it’s going elbow to rotors with the state’s Department of Transportation (MDOT). The goal? To test how unmanned flying gizmos, also known as drones, will play delivery man. Medicine, food, other small items to nearby residents – you name it, they’ll drone it.

AAIR’s Amazing Aerials!

The drone trials will take place in the newly christened Detroit’s Advanced Aerial Innovation Region. To save you the trouble of abbreviating, let’s just call it AAIR. That’s right, folks! In this designated drone-zone – encapsulating an area within a three-mile radius from Michigan Central Station – drones will take the stage…or rather, the skies.

Hot Take:

So there you have it. Michigan Central Station is trading in tickets for takeoffs, platforms for propellers, and conductors for controllers. It’s not just sending trains on their way anymore, it’s sending medicines and groceries skywards too! Resurrected and rebooted, this isn’t Kansas anymore, it seems Michigan Central Station has found a new meaning to the phrase “I think I can, I think I can”. Talk about being on the right track! Choo-choo-choose your orders, folks, the drones are ready!
