Tech Industry Zapped by Job Cuts: Is Jarvis Hiring?

The Techlash Continues

It feels like the tech industry has accidentally clicked on a malevolent malware: “JobEater2023”. The virus seems to be doing a damage of epic proportions, with over 240,000 jobs in the bin. That’s a whopping 50% higher than the previous year, making 2023 feel more like a KV-2023 tech recession.

Big Tech plays Thanos

Earlier this year, the tech giants – Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Yahoo, Meta, and Zoom (You’d think Zoom would’ve learned its lessons after those embarrassing “you’re on mute” incidents) – started a mass downsizing spree. Perhaps this is their commitment to a leaner, meaner, AI-ier future. Startups across sectors have also felt the knock-on effects. And they’re not feeling the love, either.

The Hot Take

While the tech industry might be resetting faster than your router, there’s a silver lining. Remember all those times you dreamed about working less and chilling more? Maybe it’s time for techies to pick up some real-world skills, like sunshine appreciation 101, or how to absolutely dominate moniker board games. We’d rather it didn’t take mass job cuts to make that happen, but hey, maybe the Universe is just a coder with a wicked sense of irony.
